And we may wonder what the relationship, if any, is between yoga and religion. Yoga is a personal spiritual practice that does not require adherence to any particular religion. The deeper understanding and acceptance of the self that comes with the practice of yoga is relevant to all major religions. People of many different faiths – Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews – as well as agnostics and atheists, practice yoga because of its numerous benefits and life-enrichment. Some yoga practitioners are more religious than others, some not at all. But Yoga itself is simply a tool for exploring the depth of our human nature, of plumbing the mysteries of the body and the mind.
